9.8% Gain for Australian Online Advertising Spend in Q2
The Interactive Advertising Bureau Australia (IAB Australia) recently released the online advertising stats for Q2. It recorded an increase of 9.8 percent over the June quarter in 2008. With this growth, revenues reached AUD$453 million. Quarter-on-quarter figures also registered an improvement of 3 percent.
The IAB group tracks online advertising spending in 25 countries via the PriceWaterhouseCoopers survey of major web publishers, search and directory sites. The Australian arm tracks approximately 1,000 websites.

“With the economy showing early signs of recovery, the online industry is well on track to exceed $A2 billion in calendar 2009,” says IAB Australia chief executive Paul Fisher.
The survey found finance to have the highest spending Advertiser Industry Category, it registered an increase of 19.6 percent in its share. This includes subcategories such as business banking, credit cards, home loans, superannuation, personal banking, wealth management and other finance.
Computers and communications comes in second with a share of 14 percent. This number outpaced the first-quarter 2009’s 12.5 percent. Ranking third is motor vehicles, which recorded an 11.9 percent increase.
A notable new comer to online advertising is the government, spending 4.5 percent. It jumped from a 2.7 percent share only six months ago.
